Beachfront apartments in Kvarner
Kvarner has a big choice of stays close to the water, from sandy Lopar to the pebble bays of Krk and the promenades of Crikvenica. What changes from place to place is the shore itself.
Search beachfront stays in KvarnerThe islands hold most of our beachfront stays. Pag, Rab and Krk each have a large number of apartments within a short walk of the sea. On Rab, Lopar stands out for families: its bays are sandy and very shallow, so a beachfront stay there means toddlers can paddle right outside. Krk's shoreline is mostly pebble and rock, with Baška's long pebble beach and the family resorts of Malinska and Njivice among the favourite spots. On Pag, beaches such as Prosika near Pag town mix sand and small pebbles and shelve gently.
On the mainland, Crikvenica and Novi Vinodolski have stays close to town beaches that were made for families, with promenades, playgrounds and, in Crikvenica's case, sandy sections on the shore and in the water. The Opatija riviera is different: swimming is mainly from concrete platforms, rocks and small pebble coves along the Lungomare promenade, which suits confident swimmers and anyone who likes an evening stroll more than a sandy beach. On Lošinj, the pine-shaded bays of Čikat near Mali Lošinj are the most popular area.
Check what 200 metres really means before you book. On the islands, villages often rise steeply from the harbour, and in Opatija you may be above the promenade with steps down to the sea. Look at the map and the photos for the route, and if you are travelling to Rab, Cres, Lošinj or Pag by ferry, factor crossing times into your arrival day. Pag's northern tip is reached by a short ferry from Prizna, while the south of the island is joined to the mainland by a bridge. Summer weekends bring the longest queues at ferry ports.
How close to the beach?
- Under 250 m A couple of minutes on foot. Easiest with small children, beach bags and a midday break back at the apartment.
- 250–500 m Roughly a five-minute walk. Still an easy daily routine, often in quieter streets a little back from the shore.
- 500 m – 1 km A ten-to-fifteen-minute walk, or a short drive. The widest choice of places to stay.

- For easy arrival by car with no ferry, choose Krk or the mainland rivieras.
- Check for steps or steep lanes between the stay and the water, especially on the islands and in Opatija.
- Confirm parking: most stays include it, but spaces near beaches and harbours are tight in summer.
