Search stays in PodstranaPodstrana stretches along the coast south-east of Split, from the mouth of the Žrnovnica river to the hill of Mutogras, with Perun hill rising steeply behind. It is about 8 kilometres from the centre of Split, and its whole shoreline has been shaped into one long beach of roughly six kilometres. Once a farming area known for peaches, it now lives mainly from tourism, with private apartments and a handful of hotels.
It suits people who want Split within reach without staying in the crowded centre: families, couples and anyone travelling by car. Because the land climbs quickly from the sea, many houses have open views over the water towards Brač and Šolta. Behind the village, Perun hill has marked walking trails, and along the Žrnovnica river a shaded promenade of about two kilometres runs from the estuary inland, a good alternative to the beach on the hottest afternoons.
Where you stay matters more for convenience than for character. Strožanac, near the northern end, is closest to Split and the sandy bay at Stobreč. Grljevac and Sveti Martin lie further along, and Mutogras marks the south-eastern end, furthest from the city and a little closer to Omiš. Wherever you are, the beach is rarely more than a few minutes away. A good share of our stays are within a short walk of the sea, and most have sea views.
Beaches
Strožanac
A pebble beach running from Strožanac's small harbour towards the marina by the Le Méridien Lav hotel, with plenty of restaurants and cafés along it. Handy if you want to be close to Stobreč and the bus into Split.
Grljevac and Sveti Martin
Stretches further along the seafront, mostly pebble and gravel with some rocky sections. There is little natural shade apart from a few palms, so hire an umbrella or bring your own. Entry is generally easy and there is room to spread out.
Mutogras
At the south-eastern end of Podstrana, a pebble beach with some concrete sections for easier access and a long paved promenade with palm trees nearby. The water shelves gently and is pleasant for an evening swim.
Getting there and around
Split Airport lies on the far side of the city, so allow around 40 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Podstrana sits on the D8 coastal road towards Omiš, and regular city buses link it with Split, which saves you the stress of parking in the centre. The ferry port in Split, for Brač, Hvar and Vis, is a short drive or bus ride away. Nearly all our stays here come with private parking, a real advantage over staying in town.
