Where to park in Split
Split’s old town is a pedestrian zone, so the question is not whether you can park at Diocletian’s Palace but how close you want to be and what you are willing to pay. The short answer: for a day of sightseeing use the city car parks at Vukovarska or Svačićeva, a 5 to 8 minute walk from the old town at about a third of the price of the Riva; for the ferry, use Bijankinijeva for a few hours or a garage with a daily rate if you are leaving the car for days.

Prices checked against the official tariffs of Split parking in October 2026. They change, so confirm on splitparking.hr or on the sign before you pay.
The best car parks in Split at a glance
| Car park | Walk to the old town | Price in summer | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riva (east end) and Trg Franje Tuđmana | 2–4 min | about €4 first hour, then €5/h | A quick stop, drop-off |
| Stari plac (Zrinsko-Frankopanska) | 6–8 min | about €4 first hour, then €5/h | When everything else is full |
| Vukovarska (entrance from Livanjska) | 6–8 min | about €1.50/h | A day in the old town |
| Svačićeva (Ul. Petra Svačića) | 5–6 min | about €1.50/h | A day in the old town |
| Bijankinijeva | 8–10 min; 5 min to the ferries | about €1.50/h | Ferry passengers, Bačvice beach |
| Sukoišan garage | about 15 min | about €1.50/h | Overnight, covered parking |
| Firule garage (private) | 15–18 min | about €25 per day | Several days on the islands |
The difference adds up quickly. Eight hours in summer cost about €12 at Vukovarska or Svačićeva and about €39 on the Riva or at Stari plac. All Split parking car parks with barriers are open around the clock, and winter prices (October to April) are roughly a third lower.

Street parking: zones and prices
Street parking in Split is run by Split parking and divided into zones. You pay at the machine, by SMS, with a ticket from a Tisak kiosk or in the official Split Parking app.
| Zone | Where | Per hour (summer / winter) | Charged Monday to Friday |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | The centre: Petra Svačića, Zagrebačka, Matejuška, bana Jelačića | €1.20 / €0.80 | 06:30–21:30 |
| II | Around the centre: Gorička, Tolstojeva, Mikačićeva | €1.00 / €0.70 | 07:00–19:00 |
| III | Further out: Sukoišanska, Bačvice, Sustipan, Stobreč | €0.80 / €0.60 | 07:00–19:00 |
- Saturday is charged from 07:00 to 14:00 in all zones. Sunday is free on the street.
- By SMS: send your number plate without spaces to 708211 (zone I), 708212 (zone II) or 708213 (zone III). One message buys one hour, and your mobile operator adds a small fee. Foreign SIM cards do not always work, so have coins or the app ready.
- Summer prices apply from 1 May to 30 September.
- If you do not pay or you overstay, you get a daily ticket: about €18 in zone I, €12 in zone II and €9.60 in zone III in summer.
- Some older guides mention a two-hour limit in zone I. The current tariff does not list one, but always read the sign on the street you park in.
Parking for the ferry port
The ferries and catamarans to Brač, Hvar, Vis and Korčula leave from the port right next to the old town, and so do the bus and train stations. Parking there is tight.
- A few hours: Bijankinijeva, the city car park above the port, at about €1.50 an hour in summer. There is no daily cap, so 24 hours cost about €36.
- Right at the piers: the private car park between the bus and train stations on Obala kneza Domagoja. Expect about €35 to €45 a day.
- Several days: a garage with daily and weekly rates is cheaper and safer. The private Firule garage on Spinčićeva charges about €25 a day or €175 a week and can be booked online; it is a 12 to 15 minute walk from the ferries.
- Do you need the car on the island at all? Catamarans take passengers only, and on a short trip to Hvar town or Bol many people are better off leaving the car in Split.
Never leave the car in the ferry boarding lanes: they are for vehicles queuing for the next sailing.
Free and cheap parking in Split
- Sundays and evenings. Street zones are free on Sundays, after 21:30 in zone I and after 19:00 in zones II and III. Arrive on a Saturday afternoon and you pay nothing on the street until Monday morning.
- Zone III with a short walk or a bus. At €0.80 an hour it is the cheapest paid option; Sukoišanska is about 15 minutes on foot from the Riva.
- Residential streets one to two kilometres from the centre, for example around Poljud, are free but fill quickly. Do not block driveways or park on pavements.
- Mall of Split runs a free shuttle bus to the ferry port in summer. Check the mall’s parking terms first, and do not count on free all-day parking at any shopping centre.
What to avoid
- Do not drive into the old town. The Palace and the streets around it are for pedestrians; only delivery and emergency vehicles are allowed.
- Illegally parked cars are towed by the “pauk” tow truck. Getting the car back costs about €60 for the tow plus storage and the fine, and the depot is at Pujanke, well outside the centre.
- Do not pay Riva prices all day. Use the Riva car park to unload, then move to a cheaper one.
- Arrive early in July and August. Car parks near the centre are usually full by about 9 or 10 in the morning.
- Check the SMS number against the zone on the sign; a ticket for the wrong zone does not count.
Campervans, electric cars and disabled parking
Motorhomes do not fit in the garages. Camping Stobreč, east of the city, has a city bus stop outside, and the station car park takes campervans at a higher day rate. Some city garages have charging points for electric cars. Holders of a European disabled parking card park free of charge in marked disabled bays.
Where to stay in Split with a car
The simplest solution is a stay with its own parking space. Inside the Palace walls that does not exist, so look just outside the old town, in Bačvice, Firule or Meje, or in Podstrana along the beach to the east. Our Split guide covers the areas, and the AI search understands “with parking”.
