Rabac is a former fishing village that grew into a resort, tucked into a bay beneath steep, wooded hills, with a harbour promenade and a string of pebble beaches. The water is exceptionally clear, and the view is of open sea and the long outline of Cres rather than a sunset horizon. Pine woods run down almost to the water, giving shade on the beaches.
Up on the hill, Labin sits around 320 metres above sea level. Its old town is a tangle of cobbled lanes, painted façades, galleries and viewpoints, and the town also has a long coal-mining history that still shapes its character. Staying up here gives you cooler evenings and an old-town atmosphere; staying in Rabac puts you on the beach. The two are only a few minutes apart by car, so even if you stay by the sea, Labin's old town is an easy evening out.
The terrain means many of our stays in this area look out over the sea, often from terraces on the slopes above Rabac or around Labin. The flip side is gradients: some homes are a steep walk from the beach, so check the location and parking if you have young children or limited mobility. If you want the sea on your doorstep, look for a stay close to Rabac's promenade; for views and quiet, the hillsides are the better bet.
Beaches
Girandella
Rabac's best-known beach, a long pebble bay with very clear water, beach bars and water sports, and plenty of room for families. It is within walking distance of the centre, though the way back up can be steep. Part of Girandella is set aside for swimming with dogs.
Maslinica
One of the largest beaches in Rabac, stretching around 500 metres along the shore. Smooth pebbles, pines behind, views out to the Kvarner islands and well-organised summer facilities. The entry into the sea is easy, which suits children and older swimmers.
Lanterna and St Andrea
Smaller beaches close to the village centre. Lanterna is the calmer choice when Girandella is busy, and both are handy if you want a quick swim between meals without taking the car.
Getting there and around
Pula airport is roughly 40 to 45 km away, usually well under an hour by car. From Zagreb or Rijeka, take the motorway through the Učka tunnel and leave at the Vranje exit, then follow local roads to Labin and Rabac; Rijeka airport is about two hours away in summer traffic. Parking in Rabac's centre is limited, so a stay with its own space makes a real difference.

Is Rabac good for families?
Yes, as long as you plan around the hills. The main beaches are equipped, sheltered and easy to get into, and the promenade is pleasant for evening walks. Choose a stay near the seafront or with parking close to the beach so the climb back up with children and bags is not a daily struggle.
