Search stays in FažanaFažana is where most visitors catch the boat to the Brijuni National Park, but it is worth staying for its own sake. The harbour is still busy with fishing boats, the seafront promenade runs past cafés and olive trees, and evenings are relaxed rather than loud. Sardines are part of the town's identity, and you will see them on menus along the waterfront. Boats and cafés line the waterfront, and it is an easy place to spend an unhurried evening.
It suits families and couples who want a calm base without being isolated. Pula's sights, shops and airport are a short drive south, so day trips are easy and late arrivals are painless. Valbandon, just south of the centre, is a quieter residential village with its own beaches, while Peroj to the north has a long coastal walk and a more rural feel. Both are within cycling distance of the harbour.

A fair share have a pool, and many welcome pets, which fits the area's dog-friendly beaches. Very few sit right on the water, so check the distance to the beach if that matters. Olive groves surround the villages, and the whole area has a green, low-rise feel.
Beaches
Pineta
About two kilometres from the centre, backed by pine forest with a direct view across the channel to Brijuni. There are courts for beach volleyball and basketball, mini golf and places to eat, which makes it a good all-day option for families.
Valbandon
A public beach in the village of Valbandon, also around two kilometres from Fažana, framed by pines and clear water. The largest stretch has activities for children and boat hire. Nearby is the Bi dog beach, one of the area's designated spots for swimming with a dog.
Bođinka and Martulina, Peroj
Pebble and rock beaches along Peroj's coastal promenade, which runs for about 2.5 km with views of the Brijuni islands. Quieter than the beaches in town, with natural shade in places. Bođinka is also listed among Istria's pet-friendly beaches.
Getting there and around
Pula airport is about 14 km away, so transfers are short, and Pula city centre is just down the road. The Istrian Y motorway is close by for trips north to Rovinj, Poreč or the hill towns. Boats to Brijuni leave from Fažana harbour and take about 15 minutes. Nearly all our stays include parking, which helps because spaces near the harbour fill up in summer.

Frequently asked questions
How do you get from Fažana to the Brijuni islands?
National park boats leave from Fažana harbour, and the crossing takes about 15 minutes. Tickets usually include the boat and a guided visit of the main island. In peak season it is wise to book ahead through the national park, since departures can sell out. Private excursion boats also run around the islands but do not always land.
Is Fažana good for families?
Yes. It is small and calm, with shallow pebble beaches, pine shade and a promenade that is easy with a buggy. Pineta and Valbandon have play areas and sports facilities, and Pula's attractions are close for rainy days. Many of our Fažana stays are family apartments and houses with parking, and some have a pool.
Is Fažana better than staying in Pula?
It depends on your pace. Fažana is quieter, more village-like and close to Brijuni, with easy beaches. Pula has the Roman arena, more restaurants and nightlife, and a wider choice of rocky coves. Since the two are only a short drive apart, many visitors stay in Fažana and pop into Pula for evenings out.
