Search stays in MedulinMedulin wraps around a wide, sheltered bay in the south of Istria, and its big draw is something rare on this coast: a proper sandy beach. Bijeca runs for about a kilometre, with water that stays shallow a long way out, so it is the first choice for families with toddlers. The village has a relaxed harbour, a seafront lined with restaurants and ice-cream stops, and enough going on in summer without the bustle of a city.
Around the bay, Pomer is a small, peaceful harbour village with pebble coves under pine trees, popular with sailors. Premantura, at the end of the road, is the gateway to Cape Kamenjak, a protected peninsula of wild coves, low cliffs and scrub that feels far from the resorts. Kamenjak is a place for swimming off flat rocks, snorkelling and cycling along dusty tracks, and it is at its best early or late in the day. Between Medulin and Premantura, a string of quieter coves and small campsites fills the rest of the shoreline.
Many of our stays here are close to the sandy stretches, and plenty welcome pets. Most are apartments and houses in residential streets a few minutes from the sea rather than on the shoreline itself, which usually means easier parking and more space. The flat terrain around the bay also makes cycling between Medulin, Pomer and Premantura easy, and Pula is close for a day of sightseeing.
Beaches
Bijeca, Medulin
The best-known sandy beach in Istria and the only sandy one around Medulin. It stretches for about a kilometre with a very gentle entry into the sea, so small children can paddle safely. Loungers and umbrellas are available, and it gets busy in July and August.
Pomer
A small, quiet beach on the protected inner side of Medulin Bay. Pebble coves, sun terraces and pine shade make it easy for families, and the water is usually calm. A good alternative when Bijeca is crowded.
Cape Kamenjak, Premantura
A protected nature reserve with around 30 km of coastline and dozens of small coves, mostly flat rocks and pebbles. Shade and facilities are limited, so bring water and an umbrella. Cars pay an entry fee in the main season; walkers and cyclists enter free.
Getting there and around
Pula airport is only about 13 km from Medulin, so transfers take minutes, and Pula city centre with its Roman arena is a similar distance away. From the Istrian Y motorway, follow the signs for Pula and then Medulin. Most of our stays include parking. Around Bijeca and on the unpaved tracks at Kamenjak, parking fills up by late morning in high summer, so arrive early.

Tips before you book
- Bijeca is the only true sandy beach here; the rest of the coast is pebble and rock.
- At Kamenjak, go early or late in the day: there is little shade and the tracks are dusty.
- Dogs are allowed at Cape Kamenjak and on the beach at Stupice campsite in Premantura.
- Medulin is one of the closest resorts to Pula airport, which suits short stays and late flights.

Do you have to pay to enter Kamenjak?
In the main season, motor vehicles pay an entrance fee to drive into the Kamenjak reserve, and buying online can be cheaper. Pedestrians and cyclists enter free, and outside the season cars can usually drive in without paying. Check the reserve's official website for current rules before you go.
Should I stay in Medulin, Premantura or Pomer?
Medulin suits families who want the sandy beach and restaurants on foot. Premantura is best for nature lovers who want to be first into Kamenjak each morning. Pomer is the quietest of the three, with a small harbour and calm coves. All three are close together, so a car lets you enjoy the whole area.
